Success Stories of Beachcomber Family Center | Addiction Recovery

It’s been said that success is in the eye of the beholder. At the Beachcomber Family Center for Addiction Recovery we aim for long term recovery, helping a client completely change their outlook on life. And we believe that learning how to stay sober is best done by working with a treatment center that is not only the best drug and alcohol treatment center, but also the longest continuous operating treatment facility in the state of Florida.

When you are checking into treatment facilities it’s important to understand that most treatment centers report “facts” that put them in the most positive light. They’re trying to sell you on their facility so they will manipulate their recovery results to make themselves appear in the best possible light. That’s easy to do in an industry that doesn’t have standardized success rates.

We believe that successful recovery is something that is long term, requiring a complete lifestyle change. To that end, our program is designed to be multi-pronged, basing treatment plans on individual needs, while teaching clients the sober disciplines that are tried and true and have been a staple of the Beachcomber for most of its 46 continuous years of operation.

As such, our research over our many years of existence has shown that people with long term sobriety ascribe their success to the following: 1) a concentration on spirituality; 2) 12 Step meeting attendance; 3) a sober support network; and, 4) family support.

The Beachcomber has developed a system of daily sober disciplines, called Toothbrush Therapy, that incorporates five daily positive habits related to the research that prepares the client for the inevitable daily stressors that come up in life that previously led them to alcohol or drugs.

These disciplines include direct spiritual habits, such as prayer and meditation. But they also include holistic physical therapy, yoga, and proper nutrition.

We don’t simply treat the disease of addiction. We treat the underlying issues, including anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. Due to the experiences of our clients, we also specialize in trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Research shows that people experiencing a Substance Use Disorder have a high incidence of trauma and sexual abuse. At the Beachcomber we have therapists who are trained in Rapid Resolution Therapy (RRT), a method of “clearing” the emotions associated with traumatic events. Over the last fifteen years we have had excellent results with RRT, which then allows our clients to concentrate on learning and integrating the sober disciplines that will help them maintain their sobriety as they return to their normal daily routines such as work, school and families.

At the Beachcomber we have found that the family is critical to the client’s recovery. In fact, we believe that for the client to succeed in sobriety family education and involvement, including family members participating in their own recovery program, is vital to long-term success. Our Family Program is comprehensive in its approach to education, for both the family and the client. It is held twice weekly, including via Zoom for out-of-town family members. Subjects include Codependency, Boundaries, Healthy Communication Skills, Post-Acute Withdrawal, Shame Resilience, and Spirituality. Presentations are approximately 1 hour long, with additional time for questions and everyone’s favorite, the “Shout Out”, where clients step in front of the camera and get to say hello to their loved ones.

All in all, the Beachcomber has used its 46 years of experience to continue to evolve as the needs of our clients have changed. We believe our holistic approach, along with our commitment to following the current research, and our intimate surroundings make us among the premier treatment facilities in the country.
